medallion

Here is a medallion I made on a CNC mill. It was cut from a piece of 0.25" aluminum plate, affixed to a sacrificial fixture plate. It's easy to CNC mill parts like this; the fixturing lets you cut full profiles and is very simple. First, the six perimeter holes were drilled, then the piece was screwed onto the fixture plate and profiled. Counterboring the screw holes is interesting - I played a game of 'musical screws', removing and replacing screws in sequence as the mill cut the counterbores.

The medallion is attached to some pieces of black acrylic, cut and shaped to fit in the PALS webbing on my bag.
